80/20 to manage international project on consent

 80/20 has announced an important new project on informed customer consent, focusing on the online environment. The Working Group, will be convened by the London School of Economics, will be managed by 80/20 Thinking and is supported by the watchdog organisation Privacy International. It will engage with industry, consumer and legal experts from around the world. The Working Group members include Microsoft, eBay, Facebook, Vodafone and AOL. The project has the formal support of the Information Commissioners of Ireland, France, the UK, Berlin, Madrid and Slovenia. 

The Group will develop a number of papers on various aspects of consent and will organise a number of meetings in Europe and the US throughout 2008 and 2009.

Simon Davies, CEO of 80/20 Thinking, said "This is an important initiative that offer a real chance to improve consent conditions across the Internet. The collaborative process will lead all of us to a clearer understanding of how innovative models for consent for the use of personal information might be explored."
